Aotea Asset Management (AAM) was established in 2021 and is New Zealand’s largest locally owned and operated private credit manager focused on corporate lending. AAM’s clients include privately owned corporate businesses and Private Equity sponsors.

The AAM Investment Team has a long and successful track record of originating, structuring and executing corporate and leveraged & acquisition finance transactions, through multiple economic and credit cycles.

You will assist the Investment Team and Investment Committee in assessing and executing new lending opportunities as well as monitoring portfolio companies’ financial performance and compliance with AAM’s loan agreements. From time to time, you may also work on debt advisory mandates for AAM’s sister company, Cube Credit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess transaction due diligence reports and highlight key issues identified.
  • Identify and summarise the key strengths/weaknesses and key risks/mitigants of the borrower’s business and industry.
  • Form an accurate view on the credit risk grade of the borrower by applying AAM’s Credit Policy.
  • Assist with transaction structuring and drafting debt terms sheets.
  • Lead the preparation of briefing papers and credit submissions for presentation to the Investment Committee and help present transactions to the Investment Committee.
  • Review financial reporting of portfolio clients to ensure ongoing compliance with loan documentation and detect potential borrower performance issues.
  • Assist with the broader operation functions for AAM and its sister company Cube Credit. This may include working on debt advisory mandates for Cube Credit.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a positive, successful workplace culture.
  • Perform other related work and duties as required to ensure the success of the Employer.

Your Background
  • Two to five years’ experience working in credit fund lending, corporate/institutional banking, corporate finance, investment banking or transaction services roles.
  • A high degree of proficiency in financial modelling (Microsoft Excel) and financial and credit analysis.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and experience in preparing information memorandums and/or credit submissions (Microsoft Word and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate and interact effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Candidates will require a tertiary qualification in commerce/finance and/or law and ideally other external qualifications, e.g. CFA.
